November 8, 1945 - September 8, 2018
Margery Porch of Gloucester Township, New Jersey, died on September 8, 2018, following 3 1/2 years of living with the rare leiomyosarcoma. She died peacefully at home with her family by her side. Margie was born in Abington, Pennsylvania on November 8, 1945, to the late Willis T. and Alberta McCreedy Porch. She married her college sweetheart, Richard (Holly) C. Hollinshead, her devoted husband and best friend for 51 years.
Margie graduated from Abington High School in 1963, and then received a B.A. degree in Sociology from Dickinson College in 1967, where she was a member of Pi Beta Phi sorority. After graduating and marrying, she began teaching sociology at Cherry Hill High School West until the first of her two daughters was born. When the girls got older, she began a second career preparing taxes, working for H&R Block for over 25 years.
Margie was known for her devotion to her family and many friends. She was a beloved wife, mother, grandmother, sister, aunt and friend. After retirement, her love for travel took Margie and Holly on many memorable trips with family and friends. Her favorite destinations were National Parks and European river cruises. She always looked forward to her monthly Book Club and Investment Club meetings, as well as her annual camping trip with a group of beloved Dickinsonians. Gardening was a priority, however, she was never happier than when she was at her beach house in Sea Isle City where family and friends would congregate.
In addition to her husband, she is survived by two wonderful daughters; Linda B. Hollinshead (John Goncher) of Rosemont, Pennsylvania and Debra M. (John) Lischak of Gloucester Township, New Jersey. Her other cherished family members are grandchildren Sarah & Christopher Goncher and Melanie & Connor Lischak; sister Nancy Porch (Jim) Whiteman of Naples, Florida, niece Jennifer (Darren) Svan and nephew Samuel (Jaime) Hafner, one great niece, three great nephews and many cousins.
Relatives and friends are invited to visit with family on Monday, September 24, from 9:30 am to 11:00 am at The Mansions on Main Street, Voorhees, New Jersey 08043. A celebration of life will begin at 11:00 am, followed by a luncheon.
In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made in Margery’s name to the Camden County Library System to benefit the Gloucester Township Branch. Gift checks should include her name and be made out and mailed to Camden County Library System, Attn: Linda Devlin, M. Allen Vogelson Branch, 203 Laurel Rd., Voorhees, NJ 08043
